I studied astronomy at the University of Texas at Austin. I received a PhD in Astrophysics from Rice University in 2007. After a brief stint of a postdoc, I shifted to science policy, becoming the second John Bahcall Public Policy Fellow at the American Astronomical Society. I was subsequently was selected as an American Institute of Physics Congressional Science Fellow, where I worked in the Office of Arizona Congressman Raul Grijalva.
From 2011-2017, I worked at the Department of Energy Office of Science for the Office of the Director.
I was selected as a Data Incubator Fellow for the Washington, DC Fall cohort in 2018, and accepted a position at the Carmax home office where I began in early 2019.
- Posit’s Data Science Hangout. I had a great time chatting with Rachael Dempsey and the other participants here, talking about my career path and tools.
- Random Trek Episode 61: “Man of the People.”. Not a great episode! Fun to talk Trek though.
- Unjustly Maligned Episode 83: Pluto. Also a fun episode with host Antony Johnston, where I explain that I think Pluto is a planet, and the International Union of Astronomy is wrong.
